Knowledge BaseFrequently Asked Questions
Answers about file limits, privacy, formats and output quality.
Why does "20 KB" mean 20,000 bytes instead of 20,480 bytes?▼
Standard SI decimal units define 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so this site treats 20 KB as 20,000 bytes. Some software uses binary units or rounds its display. The 20,000-byte ceiling meets forms that specify that maximum, but format, dimensions and minimum-size requirements can still apply.
Are my images uploaded to any remote server or stored anywhere?▼
No. The selected image is validated, decoded and compressed in your browser. The website uses analytics for page usage, but the image file and its pixels are not uploaded by the compressor. See the privacy policy for the full boundary.
Why did my image dimensions or resolution decrease?▼
The compressor first tests quality settings at the original dimensions. If the file does not fit, it reduces dimensions proportionally and checks the encoded byte count. Inspect the preview because a small result can lose fine detail or legibility.
What image formats are supported?▼
You can compress static JPEG, PNG, and WebP images up to 15 MB in file size and 24 Megapixels. Animated formats (GIF, animated WebP, APNG) are rejected because single-target static compression is designed for static document and photo uploads.
Can I set a different target size like 50 KB, 100 KB, or 200 KB?▼
Yes. While 20 KB (20,000 bytes) is the default preset, you can use any dedicated preset page — 10 KB, 30 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB — or type any custom target between 5 KB and 5,000 KB with the image size reducer in KB.
